Misty herself is incredibly friendly and welcoming - I've only been a handful of times, but she recognises me everytime I go in and always has something nice to say (or a new treat for me to try!) The food itself is just incredible - I eat out a lot, I like everything from South Indian curries, to French haute cuisine, to the strangest sushi, but no other restaurant has captured my interest like Misty's: sure, the ambience (next to a carwash) isn't perfect, but the cooking more than makes up for that. The vegetarian cheesy chili fries are sublime - just a perfect combination of flavours and textures, the "gravy" is a wonder, I've never had anything like it, and believe me I have had many failed experiments trying to replicate this at home - that's the thing about Misty's, it seems like fairly simple, honest kind of fare, but she somehow puts a magic twist on everything to make it truly memorable, truly delicious, and truly addictive: as soon as I leave, I want to go back, it's almost like I've got a crush on the place! :) I also highly recommend the bleu cheese burger (with vegetarian pattie) the cheese melts like no other cheese on earth, and there's a slightly spicy/tangy barbeque type sauce in there as well, delicious. The Cap'n Crunch milkshake is also divine! The most recent time I went in, Misty had introduced some new 50s style waitress outfits - I suspect that even more small changes will be happening, and it's just going to make the place better and better. Thankyou, Misty, for providing the most enjoyable restaurant experience in Melbourne!
My only complaint is that the burgers are really rather expensive - don't get me wrong, they're absolutely worth it, but if they came with a side of fries (just a small one would do) and maybe a tiny salad or something, it would feel more like a complete meal. You can get a side-order of the delicious chili-fries, half-size for half the price, but that makes lunch rather more than I usually like to pay, especially with the cost of a shake thrown in (and how could you resist one of those!) I know McDonalds does whole meal-deal for under $10 (but their food is truly foul, inedible even) and I don't expect Misty to serve up such quality food for such a low price, but perhaps if there were some meal options (burger/fries/soda?) for set prices - $15/$20? - I might feel more inclined to drop in far more often than I do (which is as frequently as my budget will allow at the moment!)
The Good:
The vegetarian chili fries; the incredibly fun drama of the whole experience; & Misty is a doll!
The Bad:
The total price of a meal can be slightly excessive at times - I don't want to complain too much, because I do love it, but I do think it's a wee bit overpriced.
